Letter to Parents
The Zeta Chapter of Kappa Delta at the University of Alabama has nurtured and cultivated responsible, involved members for more than 110 years. We are happy that our chapter continues to foster friendship, leadership, personal development and an altruistic spirit among our members.
If you are the parent of a current member, thank you for giving your daughter the opportunity to be involved in our community. We are grateful every day for her presence! Our chapter would not be the same without the contributions from each and every member.
In appreciation for your support,
The Members of Zeta Chapter
Letter from our President
It is my privilege to welcome you and your daughter to the Zeta Chapter of Kappa
Delta. I am so excited to greet each new member and hope to ensure a positive
Kappa Delta was founded on October 23, 1897, at Longwood University in
Farmville, Virginia. Nationally, Kappa Delta has chartered more than 150
collegiate chapters and 200 alumnae chapters across the country. Our chapter was
installed in 1904 as the first sorority at the University of Alabama, as well as the first sorority in the state of Alabama. Zeta chapter is also the longest continuously open existing Kappa Delta chapter nationally!
I am confident that being a member of Kappa Delta Sorority will enhance your
daughter's college experience. It is a privilege that comes with responsibility. We
expect our existing and new members to excel academically, and we encourage all
members to participate in campus and community activities that will improve their
leadership skills and expand their knowledge. Kappa Delta encourages its
members to assume chapter responsibilities, and we encourage everyone to pursue
an appointed and/or elected office. We anticipate our members and new members
will learn the value of philanthropy as they take part in our local and national
charitable efforts. This past year our chapter raised over $60,000 to support
Child Abuse Prevention Services, one of our local philanthropies, and Prevent Child Abuse America, a philanthropy KD supports nationally! Furthermore, we expect members and new members to fulfill the financial responsibilities that make the existence of our chapter possible.
Within KD, your daughter will have a "big sister," an initiated Kappa Delta, who
will offer special assistance to help her become familiar with and adjust to sorority
and college life. Our chapter, local alumnae, and the national organization will do
everything possible to make your daughter's college career and sorority experience
the very best it can be. Please support your daughter in fulfilling her academic,
social, and financial responsibilities. We are confident that she will receive back
everything she puts into Kappa Delta and more!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Our chapter is looking forward to welcoming your daughter as one of the newest members of our family!
Kappa Delta President
